Looks like the folks over at Magic Jack don’t want to play fare in the telephony world. Seems they refuse to collect 911 fees from their customers EVEN THOUGH those customers have the same access to 911 services as those who PAY. And now, Kanawha County Florida is taking the USB phone company to court! (more…)

These videos were posted over the weekend by regular, everyday citizens and their Android phones. It shows two COMPLETELY different methods of delivery the safety message to kids at school. The beauty of these videos is that they show what is really going on out there, get new ideas and change the way we do business. The ugly part of the videos is that you just got posted on SideCharlie.com! Watch the vids after the jump … (more…)
As reported first on myFOX Houston this morning the Houston Fire Department learned of the disturbing results of a year long investigation by the EEOC. It found that FF Jane Draycott was indeed a victim of sexual harassment within the department. The actual EEOC report is available to read below. (more…)
This was just posted to YouTube by new user (wossi1712) out of Germany. The description states this video is from the Mannheim Fire Department Open House. They had a ‘Firemen of the Future’ fashion show where an oiled up firefighter wearing only bunker pants and a helmet struts down the runway with a thermal imager? (I could have sworn seeing an old lady getting her Euros out of her purse.) Watch the video after the jump … (more…)
For those fire stations allowed, there is nothing better than a firehouse dog that greets you when you come to work or from a stressful emergency. For the East Dundee Fire Protection District that dog was named Bunkers. On January 7th, Bunkers was put to sleep due to a sudden onset of complications. Bunkers was 13. (more…)
[UPDATE: Video has been pulled from YouTube]Thanks to the availability of video recording devices in the hands of everyday citizens we get to witness some amazing feats that were only legendary stories before. Watch with amazement (understatement) of a man in Smallville Uvalde, Texas armed only in white gloves attack the fire beast head-on with his trusty 1 3/4″ handline! Video after the jump (more…)
YouTuber TheFirehouse66 posted this seven minute video of a suggested firefighter obstacle course as a workout. The course uses fire department equipment that any station would have on hand. Check out the video demo after the jump. (more…)

While not totally fire department related, it is about loyalty. The one-eyed dog in the photo is named Zelda. Zelda was rescued along the side of a road by 12-year-old Josh Reed back in 2006. Three years later Josh was stuck and killed by a truck. The family says that Zelda has not left the grave site since. We don’t mean to put a damper on your weekend (our eyes are misty because of allergies, honest), but we do agree with BWE that you should enjoy your pets this weekend and give them a big hug for being the most loyal thing in your life. (via BWE.TV) Another pic of Zelda and Josh after the jump (more…)

Ever seen the movie ‘White Men Can’t Jump?’ Maybe it should also be applied to white volunteer firefighters attempting the ‘Crank It Soulja Boy’ dance. We scoured YouTube to bring you the Top 5 worst attempts of country boy firefighters trying their best to have some sort of rhythm. We realize this dance has been around since Summer 2007, however, we still had one posted by YouTuber 9cummins7 today via his Android phone. We’ll get to his video after the jump … (more…)
[fblike]A newly posted photo courtesy of ifixfones1 who says the owner of the bike was getting ready to take off when he happened to come across it. It’s a Suzuki where the turbo was custom installed in Chicago and the paint job was done in Florida. Never forget.

A tribute video was posted last night by YouTuber apttotwinkle in memory of Retired FDNY Firefighter Roy Chelsen. We posted an excerpt and link to the New York Times article covering Roy’s actions on 9/11. Tragically, the number of first responders who lost their lives as a result of 9/11 continues to grow. Roy Chelsen was heroic, both as a firefighter and as he battled cancer caused by working at Ground Zero. Watch this fitting video after the jump … (more…)

Dramatic amateur video posted today by YouTuber bmazanec of an apparent car fire in St. Louis. Upon arrival of the St Louis Fire Department Pumper 4 (A Shift) they discover someone is still in the car. The entire event is caught on video. There is no date of the actual incident mentioned in the video so we can assume it was probably in the last 24 hours. Check out the video after the jump … (more…)

Our friends over at Brotherhood Instructors posted a new, very quick :44 second video demonstrating how to properly use the Rex Tool as a method of ‘through the lock’ forcible entry. Their YouTube channel (BrotherhoodInstrctrs) should be subscribed to due to the excellent quality of their videos. What’s so great about the vids? They get directly to the point in under 60 seconds without a lot of BS! Watch this video after the jump to see what we mean … (more…)

We came across this new video posted on YouTube (by DoworkLT) this morning by a company (owned by a firefighter) called Firefighter Tools. They have a new tool holster called the Pocket Caddy. The video says it is constructed of long lasting Kydex. The Caddy comes with the most commonly used tools (center punch and wire cutter) made by Pittsburgh Tools which are guaranteed for life through Harbor Freight. (more…)

Dramatic video provided to KOCO-TV News of a large apartment complex fire at the Quail Ridge apartments in northwest Oklahoma City back on Jan. 11, 2011. No fire department units are on the scene. Several items to note: At 0:02 you will see the attic vent out of the gable end. At 0:25 a panic flows through the crowd as they hear someone cough and believe someone is trapped in the building. Check out the video – lots of training worthiness … (more…)

For the record, we LIKE Dallas Fire Department. This is not meant to take a cheap shot at them whatsoever. That said, we were searching around fire department websites on another article project and came across the front page for the DFD. The main photo on the front page shows a firefighter standing in the window with no hood or respiratory protection. Reading the smoke tells us there is active fire. Why?? (more…)

This past Sunday, FF Roy W. Chelsen of FDNY Engine Company 28 died as a result of multiple myeloma, a cancer that many link to his incredible work on 9/11. He is also the first firefighter to die after the signing of the 9/11 Health Law. Today in the New York Times is an incredible article we recommend to all, from rookie to vet, to read and discuss. It talks of a man when faced against a worst-case scenario stood up and made decisions that saved many on that fateful day. FF Roy Chelsen is a firefighter’s firefighter. (more…)

New video posted on YouTube by nelmore11 (no date on the fire, but we can assume it was yesterday) of a fully involved house. The fire is along a highway out in the middle of nowhere and the structure is almost completely on the ground. Funny thing about amateur videos – they catch you doing interesting things (3:40 in the video) like using an 1 3/4″ hand-line downwind of a house fully involved and on the ground. Dude, just let it burn. Video after the jump … (more…)

Overnight amateur video posted on YouTube by guyz65 (Guy Zampatori) shows a vented attic fire in an old 2 story house. Looks like they also have about 6-8″ of snow to deal with. The weather forecast for last night stated light snow with overnight lows of 10F degrees and factoring humidity and wind it would feel like 3F degrees. Throw in some snow and wet gear … well, you know. Watch the video after the jump … (more…)
