We got caught up in watching YouTube videos (yeah, we were bored) of firefighters doing the Quick Dress Drill. Basically, it’s putting on your protective gear CORRECTLY, no skin showing and breathing air from the SCBA. There are many videos of these races, but this video impressed us the most. This guy did it in :43 seconds. We like the techniques used to achieve that time. Check it out … (more…)
Let’s assume a major hurricane similar to Katrina has struck Louisiana coast wiping out all utility centers, shelters, roads and other sources of relief. FEMA is faced with the reality of housing tens of thousands of people AND providing them electricity, showers, bathrooms and other conveniences that Americans demand. If you were the refugee you may want to hold off jumping for the standard FEMA trailer and opt for new robotic mobile mini house from the folks at Daiwa? (more…)
Looks like the folks over at Magic Jack don’t want to play fare in the telephony world. Seems they refuse to collect 911 fees from their customers EVEN THOUGH those customers have the same access to 911 services as those who PAY. And now, Kanawha County Florida is taking the USB phone company to court! (more…)

These videos were posted over the weekend by regular, everyday citizens and their Android phones. It shows two COMPLETELY different methods of delivery the safety message to kids at school. The beauty of these videos is that they show what is really going on out there, get new ideas and change the way we do business. The ugly part of the videos is that you just got posted on SideCharlie.com! Watch the vids after the jump … (more…)
As reported first on myFOX Houston this morning the Houston Fire Department learned of the disturbing results of a year long investigation by the EEOC. This was just posted to YouTube by new user (wossi1712) out of Germany. The description states this video is from the Mannheim Fire Department Open House. They had a ‘Firemen of the Future’ fashion show where an oiled up firefighter wearing only bunker pants and a helmet struts down the runway with a thermal imager? (I could have sworn seeing an old lady getting her Euros out of her purse.) Watch the video after the jump … (more…)
For those fire stations allowed, there is nothing better than a firehouse dog that greets you when you come to work or from a stressful emergency. For the East Dundee Fire Protection District that dog was named Bunkers. On January 7th, Bunkers was put to sleep due to a sudden onset of complications. Bunkers was 13. (more…)
[UPDATE: Video has been pulled from YouTube]Thanks to the availability of video recording devices in the hands of everyday citizens we get to witness some amazing feats that were only legendary stories before. While not totally fire department related, it is about loyalty. The one-eyed dog in the photo is named Zelda. Zelda was rescued along the side of a road by 12-year-old Josh Reed back in 2006. Three years later Josh was stuck and killed by a truck. The family says that Zelda has not left the grave site since. We don’t mean to put a damper on your weekend (our eyes are misty because of allergies, honest), but we do agree with BWE that you should enjoy your pets this weekend and give them a big hug for being the most loyal thing in your life. (via BWE.TV) Another pic of Zelda and Josh after the jump (more…)

Ever seen the movie ‘White Men Can’t Jump?’ Maybe it should also be applied to white volunteer firefighters attempting the ‘Crank It Soulja Boy’ dance. We scoured YouTube to bring you the Top 5 worst attempts of country boy firefighters trying their best to have some sort of rhythm. We realize this dance has been around since Summer 2007, however, we still had one posted by YouTuber 9cummins7 today via his Android phone. We’ll get to his video after the jump … (more…)
