Well, what do ya know? After our first blog post and subsequent follow-ups asking that the photo on the front of Dallas Fire-Rescue’s website be changed – it finally happened. The original full size photo showing a firefighter not wearing any respiratory protection while surrounded in smoke with a link to their Respiratory Protection Program has been replaced with rainbows … and the removal of the respiratory program link. Cleveland Fire Department’s Lt. Kevin Brady Survives Heart Attack, Sought Out Help

Lt. Kevin Brady of Station 22, Cleveland Fire Department is featured today in a news story on WEWS-TV. In it, Kevin details how after a fire he felt, “a pain like I’ve never felt before” in his chest. Instead of ignoring it he told a paramedic in the station who hooked him up to the monitor to discover he was having a heart attack. Heart attacks are the #1 killer of firefighters in the United States. (more…)

YouTubers Burning Their Christmas Trees A New Post-Holiday Tradition?

[fblike]There seems to be a new annual trend on YouTube consisting of homeowners armed with Flip video cameras burning their Christmas trees in the backyard. As many times as I’ve seen the fire department pre-Christmas fire safety demonstrations of burning a tree, nothing compares to seeing the 30 second flare ups of a post-holiday tree. (more…)

VIDEO: Summertime Blaze Burns New Zealand School To The Ground

[fblike]A massive fire ripped into 12 buildings at the Auckland’s Glendowie Primary School in New Zealand burning them to the ground. The fire has been determined to be arson. The summertime blaze brought 80 firefighters to the scene. No injuries were reported. (more…)

New Fitness Device Aimed At Firefighters

Ford Announces New All Electric Vehicle

[fblike]This isn’t your fire chief’s fathers Polaroid camera! Polaroid introduced some new portable, digital equipment that may be of use to the emergency services personnel. Products introduced yesterday include the GL20 picture-taking sunglasses and the GL10 mobile wireless printer. Polaroid’s Creative Director Lady Gaga was on hand to demo the products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. (more…)
